Wizz Air hand luggage means one free under-seat bag of up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm and 10 kg on every fare; a trolley bag for the overhead locker comes only with the paid WIZZ Priority service. Budapest is Wizz Air’s home base, so many one-day trips from Budapest start with exactly this question. This guide is about bag sizes and options. For what you can pack inside, read what you can bring in hand luggage.
Wizz Air hand luggage size in 2026
- Free under-seat bag: up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm and 10 kg, included with every fare.
- Trolley bag with WIZZ Priority: up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm and 10 kg, in the overhead locker, on top of the free bag.
- Checked bags: bought separately, in 10, 20, 26 or 32 kg options depending on the route.

How the free under-seat bag works
The free bag has two limits, and you need to meet both: it must fit within 40 x 30 x 20 cm, and it must not weigh more than 10 kg. It travels under the seat in front of you, not in the overhead locker, so you keep it at your feet for the whole flight.
The 10 kg weight limit is generous for the size. In practice the depth of 20 cm is what decides: a soft backpack that bulges when full can measure more than you expect. Measure it packed. If the bag turns out too big at the gate, Wizz Air charges an extra fee before boarding.
What WIZZ Priority adds
WIZZ Priority is a paid service that lets you take a trolley bag of up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm and 10 kg into the cabin, in addition to the free under-seat bag. It also gives you priority boarding and access to the priority check-in desk. The price is dynamic, so check it when you book; it is usually cheaper to add it then than later.
For a one-day trip you can almost always skip it. You fly out in the morning and sleep at home the same night, so the under-seat bag holds everything you need. WIZZ Priority makes more sense on a longer stay, or when you know you will bring something bulky home.
Wizz Air vs Ryanair: is the same bag fine for both?
Yes. Both airlines allow a free under-seat bag of up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm, so one well-chosen backpack works on both. The difference is the paid bag: Wizz Air allows 23 cm depth with WIZZ Priority, while Ryanair’s 10 kg cabin bag is 20 cm deep. Our Ryanair hand luggage guide has the details.
Wizz Air online check-in
At the time of writing, Wizz Air’s help centre says online check-in is free and opens 24 hours before departure if you have not bought a seat, or 30 days before if you have. It closes three hours before departure. Checking in at the airport costs a fee, so do it in the Wizz Air app the day before and save the boarding pass to your phone.
With only the free bag there is nothing to drop off: go straight to security. Our airport guide for a one-day trip explains how early to arrive and how to get through security quickly.
Packing the free bag for a day trip
- Phone, charger and power bank (power banks must stay in the cabin)
- A light layer you can wear on the plane
- An empty bottle to refill after security
- ID or passport and a bank card
- Liquids in 100 ml containers in one clear bag
The Daytrip app picks one-day flight trips from Budapest, many of them on Wizz Air, and gives you a ready-made hour-by-hour itinerary built around travelling with only the free bag.
