How the itinerary generator works

You give it three things: the city, your landing time and your departure time, both in local time as printed on your boarding pass. The generator subtracts the typical transfer from the airport into the centre and back, plus a buffer for security, and what is left is your real time in the city.

It then picks sights that match your interests, groups them by neighbourhood so you are not zigzagging across town, and slots in lunch around midday. Relaxed pace leaves room for coffee and wandering, packed squeezes in as much as is realistic on foot.

Not happy with the result? Shuffle the plan for a different mix of sights in the same time window, then copy it to your notes or send it to your travel buddy.

Tips for a one-day trip that does not feel rushed

Travel with an under-seat bag only. No checked luggage means no waiting at the belt, and you can be on the train or bus within minutes of landing.

Book the big sights ahead. The Sagrada Família, the Last Supper, the Vatican Museums and the Eiffel Tower all run on timed tickets that often sell out, and a queue can eat half your day.

Plan the way back first. Work out when you need to leave the centre, set an alarm, and treat that time as fixed. Everything else in the day can flex around it.

Mind the clock. Lisbon and London are one hour behind Budapest, Athens is one hour ahead, and Istanbul is one or two hours ahead depending on the season. The generator handles this, but your phone calendar might not.

Why the Daytrip app does more

This generator is a quick way to see what fits into a day. The Daytrip app goes further: it lists real same-day return flights from Budapest with live times, so your plan starts from an actual landing time instead of a guess.

Every itinerary in the app is built and checked by hand, with swappable options for each time slot, an offline map so you do not depend on roaming, and clear notes on which sights need a timed ticket. You book flights directly with the airline through the links in the app, Daytrip does not sell tickets.

Frequently asked questions

Is the itinerary generator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no sign-up and you can generate as many plans as you like.

How much time do I really get in the city?

It depends on the airport. Copenhagen, Krakow and Vienna get you to the centre in 15 to 25 minutes, while Paris Beauvais and Istanbul Airport can take well over an hour each way. The generator subtracts the transfer and a security buffer so the number you see is realistic.

Are the transfer times exact?

No, they are typical estimates for normal traffic. Buses can be slower at rush hour, so always leave extra time for the trip back to the airport.

Does it include ticket prices and opening hours?

No. Prices and opening hours change often, so we only mark whether a sight is free or needs a ticket. Check the official site before you go.

Which cities can I plan?

Rome, Vienna, Barcelona, Milan, London, Lisbon, Prague, Istanbul, Athens, Naples, Malta, Krakow, Paris, Copenhagen, Munich and Venice, all reachable as a same-day trip from Budapest.
